Thanks for visiting Puget Sound Sails!

My name is Jim Kitchen, Owner and Operator of PSS.   I wanted to introduce myself and provide you with a brief history of my sailmaking experience and how we ended up here in the great Pacific Northwest!

Sailing became a passion of mine over 26 years ago when I first worked on the Malibar, a schooner in Traverse City, Michigan. Working and sailing on this ship taught me to enjoy the beauty of sailing and led me to want to learn how to race all types of boats.

While in T.C. I found a sail loft where I could turn my passion into a way to also earn a living and so I began as a sailmaker apprentice at Blue Water Sail and Canvas.  There I learned how to repair and cut sails from one of the most experienced sailmakers in the country.

Since then, I have been a sailmaker in four states, Michigan, Massachusetts, Florida and California, repairing sails, working on canvas, designing sails and managing the production of  these lofts. I truly enjoy what I do, probably because I am also a sailor.

The move to Seattle fell into place when my wife and I grew tired of LA and I started looking for a sail business to purchase.  I came upon Rush Sails in Kirkland and soon learned the repair side of the business was for sale.  After one year of doing just repairs, we are proud to announce PSS now also builds new sails.  Come visit our offices in Lynnwood, WA to see how the production of your sail can take shape or call me for a free measuring and quote! 425-877-6543
